horror reviews, news, musings and recommendations

I did not enjoy the first TERRIFIER film. I bet you can guess why. I even spent a long time saying things to my friends, like “I’m NOT going to see TERRIFIER 2, these films are just NOT for me.”

After the news hit that the second film was GORIER, SCARIER, PEOPLE ARE VOMITING IN THE THEATERS, I was CERTAIN that the second foray into TERRIFIER territory would again, be something that was intended for a braver audience than the likes of me.

But soon enough, the horror fan in me won, I was just TOO curious to bear.

I was WRONG. TERRIFIER 2 is fantastic.

I still haven’t seen TERRIFIER again since my first watch-through, access in Canada is very tricky, so I can’t really say much about the differences between the first and second instalments. I also don’t want to OVER review this film, spoil anything, etc. so I will keep this relatively brief.

Lauren LaVera and David Howard Thornton- TERRIFIER 2

David Howard Thornton returns in this instalment of the TERRIFIER series (Leone and team have announced they are working on a third) and somehow makes Art the Clown… charming? This shameless, deranged monster actually delights in scenes, playing coy with potential victims, and without words, responding to other characters with, at the same time, horrific and endearing gags in a way that will trouble me for the rest of my days.

Lauren LaVera (starring here as Sienna, AKA my new favourite super hero) was incredible in her performance, and after a certain cafe scene, had me locked in for the rest of the film, eager to find out what happens next. Sienna’s badassery knows no bounds.

Unlike TERRIFIER the first, the second comes through with much more story and character development that kept me glued to the screen – which was difficult, because of the bonkers amount of gore. The practical effects in this are unreal, a true treat to the eyes of a serial killer, or a well-versed horror aficionado, but it truly needs to be seen to be believed.

While definitely not for the faint of heart, after refusing to see this film for the LONGEST time I’m happy I actually got the chance to see it, maybe my tastes have changed over the years, but in my opinion TERRIFIER 2 surpasses the first in many ways, and was an unexpected thrill ride.
